Mr. Obst's College Bound Calculus

Introduction

Welcome to College Bound Calculus at LCMR.  I am very excited once again about teaching this class and hopefully this year will be both challenging and rewarding for all of us.  I will warn you that this class will take a lot of work and it is not easy.  For those of you who except the challenges of this course your mathematical abilities will grow tremendously.  For those of you who try to just get by the class will be a drudgery all year.   I want this to be the best year of mathematics you have ever had here at LCMR so let's put in the effort and have a great year.

Grading

Grades for this class will be based on both homework and tests/quizzes/reflections.  Your homework will represent 25% of your grade and the tests/quizzes/reflections will make up the final 75%.

We will review homework in class, however, if you feel yourself falling behind do not wait to get extra help.  The course moves very quickly and all of the concepts build on each other.  You must retain and build on the concepts everyday.

Post Assessment Reflections

This year you will be asked to write a 250-word essay after each chapter test that will help you assess the errors you made and help you focus on how to improve your math skills for future tests.  If you take this assignment seriously you and I will gain a lot from what you write. Below you will find the link to the assignment description for the reflection (with a couple of examples) as well as a link to the grading rubric.

Notebooks

I highly recommend that you keep a notebook.  Your notes will be hole punched therefore I would recommend a three ring binder.  Keeping your work organized will help you all year and will help you if you need to take this class over again in college.
